Email & SMS campaigns and automations
On this page
Marketing lives under Marketing โ Campaigns for one-off sends and Marketing โ Automation for messages that should fire by themselves.
Before you send anything
Configure a sending channel under Settings โ General โ Communications โ an email provider (SMTP, SendGrid, Mailgun, or SMTP2GO) and, for texts, an SMS provider (Twilio, Vonage, or Sinch). WhatsApp Business is available on the higher plans. Messages will not send until a provider is configured, and delivery is logged so you can see what happened.
Sending a campaign
Pick an audience โ everyone, a customer group, or a behavioural segment โ write the message, preview it, and send. Email supports full HTML; SMS is plain text, so keep it short and always say who it is from.
Automation flows
Automations send on a trigger rather than a schedule. Common ones worth turning on early:
- Welcome message when a customer first signs up.
- Win-back after a period of no purchases.
- Birthday or anniversary offer.
- Post-purchase thank-you with a feedback request.
Transactional messages are separate
Receipts, order confirmations, appointment reminders, and invoice reminders are transactional and send regardless of marketing preferences. Their wording is edited under Settings โ General โ Email Templates.
Consent and unsubscribes
Only market to customers who have agreed to it, honour unsubscribes immediately, and keep marketing separate from transactional messages. This is a legal requirement in most markets, not just good manners.
Watching your usage
Email and SMS volumes count against your plan. Settings โ Billing & Plan โ Usage shows the month's sends, deliveries, and failures, so a campaign never quietly runs into a limit.
Note: your business can rename menu items (Settings โ POS Configuration โ Menu Labels), so the names in your menu may differ from those shown here.
