Materials, offcuts & waste
On this page
In framing, material waste is where margin quietly disappears. These screens make it visible.
Materials
Custom Framing → Materials holds mouldings, matboards, glazing and fillets with their cost, stock and supplier. Mouldings carry corner images and matboards carry colour swatches, so selection is visual for both you and the customer.
Setup lists
Alongside the stock sit the option lists the calculator offers: Frame Sizes, Glass Types, Mat Colors, Mounting Methods, Style Categories and Corner Samples. Keeping these tidy is what makes quoting fast.
Offcuts
Every cut leaves remnants, and a framing shop that cannot find its offcuts buys moulding it already owns. Offcuts records usable remnants with their length and location so the next job can check stock before cutting a new length.
Check offcuts first on small jobs. It is the single easiest margin improvement in the module.
Waste tracking
Waste Tracking records what was lost and why, by material type. The waste trend usually points at one of three things: over-ordering, cutting errors, or a moulding profile that simply produces more scrap than it is worth.
Stock levels
Stock Overview shows what is running low against reorder points. Because production deducts materials automatically when a job reaches cutting, these figures stay close to reality without a stock take.
Costing
Keep material costs current. Framing margins are calculated from them, and a moulding price that is six months stale means every quote using it is wrong.
What to watch
The material usage report shows consumption and cost against revenue for a period, with your most-used mouldings and mats. It is the basis for negotiating with suppliers and for deciding what to stop stocking.
