Payment plans & progress billing
On this page
Not every job is paid in one go. Two features handle the two common shapes: fixed instalments, and billing as work completes.
Payment plans
A payment plan splits an agreed amount into scheduled instalments. Create one under Finance → Payment Plans, set the number and timing, and each instalment becomes due in turn. Payments are recorded against the plan and the outstanding balance updates.
This is the right tool when the total is known up front and the customer simply needs time.
Progress billing
Finance → Progress Billing suits project work where you invoice as stages complete — a deposit, then a percentage at each milestone, then the balance on handover. Each milestone bills when you mark it reached, so what you invoice always reflects what you have actually delivered.
Subscriptions
For ongoing service revenue, Subscriptions bills a customer on a repeating cycle with a saved card. POS Subscriptions does the same for plans sold at the counter.
Batch payments
Where a customer owes several invoices, Batch Payments sends one link covering all of them. The payment is distributed across the invoices automatically. If one has been voided in the meantime it is skipped and flagged rather than silently absorbing the money.
Which to reach for
- Payment plan — known total, paid over time.
- Progress billing — total earned in stages as work completes.
- Subscription — ongoing, no defined end.
- Layaway — goods held until paid off; see the retail guide.
Watching the money
All of these feed AR Aging and the finance cockpit, so instalment and milestone revenue is visible alongside everything else.
Note: your business can rename menu items (Settings → POS Configuration → Menu Labels), so the names in your menu may differ from those shown here.
