Dispensing, will-call & refills

A prescription filled, labelled and held for collection

The dispensing workflow runs from a script arriving to a patient collecting it.

The dispensing steps, and the records kept alongside them.

Entering a prescription

Under Pharmacy → Prescriptions, record the patient, the prescriber, the drug from the Drug Catalog, the quantity, and the directions. The patient's allergies and current medication are on their record, so an interaction check has something to work with.

Directions and sig codes

Prescription abbreviations are expanded through Sig Codes into plain English for the label. An abbreviation the system does not recognise is flagged rather than guessed — add it to the mapping so the next script is right.

Label directions are the part the patient actually relies on. Print them in language a person can follow without a glossary.

Filling and checking

Fill against the catalogue so stock is drawn down and lot and expiry are captured where you track them. The check step before handover is the last chance to catch a wrong drug, strength or count.

Will-call

Completed prescriptions wait in Will-Call until collection, organised so they can be found quickly. Review it regularly: uncollected medication ties up stock and, after your policy's period, has to be returned to stock or destroyed under the right procedure.

Refills

The Refill Queue tracks repeats — what is due, what has authorisations remaining, and what needs the prescriber contacted for a new script. Working it ahead of time is what stops a patient running out.

Compounding

Preparations made in-house are recorded in the Compound Lab with their formula, batch and expiry, so what was made and from what is traceable.

At the counter

Collection is rung through the register like any other sale, so dispensing revenue, insurance portions and patient payments land in the same accounts as the rest of the business.

Note: your business can rename menu items (Settings → POS Configuration → Menu Labels), so the names in your menu may differ from those shown here.
