Ringing a sale on the POS register

The POS register is the full-screen checkout your cashiers use all day. This walks through a typical sale from sign-in to receipt, plus the everyday extras โ€” discounts, customers, split payments, and offline mode.

The five stages of completing a sale
What happens between pressing Pay and the receipt printing.

Sign in and open a shift

Cashiers sign in with an email and password or a fast PIN, then pick a store and register. Before the first sale, open a shift and enter the starting cash float. A shift groups the sales, tips, and cash movements for that session so the drawer reconciles cleanly at the end.

Build the cart

Add items three ways: scan a barcode, tap a product tile, or use search (press F2). Category buttons across the top filter the grid. For each line you can:

  • Change the quantity, or weigh a sold-by-weight item on a connected scale.
  • Pick a variant (size, colour) when prompted.
  • Apply a per-item discount, or a cart-wide discount and a coupon code.

Attach a customer

Press F3 to attach a customer. The sale then appears on their purchase history, earns loyalty points automatically, and lets you reorder from a past sale or apply group pricing. You can create a new customer right from the register.

Take payment

Press Pay (F8) and choose how the customer is paying:

  • Cash โ€” the register calculates change; F9 takes the exact amount.
  • Card โ€” through your configured gateway or a paired terminal.
  • Gift card, loyalty points, or a customer tab.
  • Split โ€” combine several tenders on one sale, each with its own amount.

After payment you can prompt for a tip (10/15/20%/custom) if enabled.

Hand over the receipt

Print a thermal receipt, email or text it, or produce a gift receipt that hides prices. If auto-print is on, the receipt prints the moment the sale completes. On a phone or tablet, printing goes to a paired Bluetooth printer; on desktop it uses the connected USB printer.

Selling offline

Lost your connection? Keep ringing sales โ€” the register queues them locally and syncs automatically when you are back online, with a badge showing the sync status. Prices, tax, and discounts are calculated the same way offline as on, so nothing drifts. For heavy offline use, run SP360 Lite, the dedicated offline-first register.

Close the shift

At the end of the session, count the drawer and close the shift. SalesPoint360 shows expected versus counted cash and records the variance, and the shift's X/Z figures roll straight into your reports.
